Akua K. Hinds BHSc Midw
Akua currently resides in the region of Toronto (Ontario, Canada); born in 1966, she spent her growing up years in Wales, England and Canada (of Jamaican and British born parents). Akua has also lived and travelled in Central America, the Caribbean, West Africa and Europe; and most recently in Northern Canada and the Arctic.
Akua has been experimenting with the healing power of foods and fasting for more than 20 years. She began her journey with Raw/Living foods in 2006. After shedding 40lbs, and a list of ailments associated with hypothyroidism including muscle weakness and chronic fatigue, Akua is "back on the block", with a renewed sense of vital life force and a new interest in activities such as rock climbing, hiking and adventurous living.
Akua attended George Brown College for studies in Community Work, The University of Manitoba and Aurora College for Studies in Adult Education, and Laurentian University where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences in Midwifery (Ont. Canada). Akua also completed Yoga Teacher's Training through Sivananda Vedanta (Catskills NY)
In addition to her latest studies with David Rainoshek in Living Foods Nutrition and Juice Feasting, Akua has attended numerous trainings and educational workshops on topics that include: Herbal Medicine, Ayurvedic and Chinese Traditional Systems of Healing, Energy Work, Sustainable Community Living, Organic Food Growing, Tools for Transforming Self Limiting Beliefs -including Psych-k, and MRP, and the study of communication incl. NVC (M. Rosenberg).
Akua's work in the past 20 years relates to themes of individual and social change and self empowerment: Raising awareness on global issues, working at a collectively run shelter for women, and working with birthing women and their families as a Midwife. On numerous occasions Akua has facilitated community education in the context of global awareness and self empowerment, and she enjoys sharing her view of nature as a great teacher and healer.
Her latest adventure brought her to Ronora where she facilitated a week long Juice Feasting Retreat. A major goal for Akua is creating an off grid and sustainable retreat and, also in the works are plans for developing pre pregnancy and pregnancy coaching/consulting in the context of living foods nutrition and other tools for optimal health/well being...and self empowerment.
